How to apply for an OMB Permit

Optical Media Board is requiring shippers to seek for a permit before sending any portable devices (USB, Hard drives, CDs, etc.) which will allow them to save files.  Shipper must still seek for a permit even if the item is old, new, with file or without file, or even health records saved in a CD.

1. The shipper must submit a Letter of Intent stating why the package will be sent to the country, quantity of the item, and if the shipping will be just a óne-time shipment'or a regular shipment.  If you could make the letter more specific, then much better.

2. They must also submit an application form.  The application forms can be downloaded http://omb.gov.ph/ombnew/index.php?page=services&section=import
***It has two types: one is for Importing and the other is for exporting.  Since we are talking about sending a package outside the Philippines, then they should fill out the export application form.

3. The shipper must submit the above requirements to the Optical Media Board Office personally together with the device. The approval may take 3 days and the shipper must wait for the call from the OMB.

The address is 35 Scout Limbaga Street, Barangay Laging Handa, Quezon City.  You may also call them at (02) 374-0217.

**For those living in remote areas, they can just fax the above requirements.

4. If the item is approved, shipper must have to settle the amount of Php1050 at the Optical Media Board Office.
